So Many Exciting Ideas....So Little Time :P

Today started out with me going on a shopping trip to Dollerama for glaze materials….yes that’s right, glaze materials! In my ceramics technology class we are making kitchen glazes with easily sourced items from drugstores, grocery stores and so on. I made mine with cat litter (sodium bentonite), mascara (iron oxide), baby powder (magnesium carbonate), borax (good source of boron [maybe other stuff too, just too lazy to check]), baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and toothpaste (titanium dioxide,, calcium carbonate, hydrated silica, sodium bicarbonate)! …..We shall see how it turns out on Tuesday! I made two variations on the recipe. Oh, by the way, those weirdly shaped things are the test tiles we had to make..in my opinion they look pretty dumb, but they were good stress relievers to make!

So after that I went to my favourite class ever!!! And our teacher Toshiko Macadam did a sort of presentation on her life….it was A-MAZING!!! I love her so much : ) She is pretty well know and has worked for a high end fabric company in New York….plus end-less other amazing things! The thing that impacted me the most about what she said was the reason why she likes to make her work from textiles, it was something along the lines of: Textiles do not last forever, they are here now in my time. when I am gone, my pieces will last awhile. But they are not like big monuments made of stone, they are more precious, that is what makes them so beautiful! Like human life, we are here now and then we are gone. I do not in anyway do her justice in the way she said it… but I hope you can get a sense of it

UPDATE: This glaze turned out pretty well.....forgot to take a picture though :P But it turned out a nice golden yellow :) Yaaaaay! Success! I was so happy :)
